Very interesting post Gringo :-;
but your knowledge it seems to be pretty much based on what happens in the province - I live in Buenos Aires Capital and unfortunately there is no SIESTA :-(
1-
Here you will be stuck for hours in transit due
Piquete (people protesting coz salaries or whatever they consider is necessary)
Manifestacion (people again, protesting coz they don't like their neighbor, students that dont like school schedule etc)
or just because transit!!!! (its a nightmare to be at downtown with your car).
2- Most of the people I know like gringos as a matter of fact my best friend in the whole world is a "gringa" and I m an Argentinean lady - You are very different than us and yes, we usually think you have a limited vision of the world as it looks that the world starts and ends in the US but is just one of the things that make your country so strong in many occasions
and definitely we admire that.
3- YES - we HATE most of the British people - due futbol issues (90% of the times) and of course related to Malvinas (if you have anything else in your head other than a futbol ball)
4- SPENDING a LOT of TIME explaining WHy WE are the BEST people in the world !!!! jaaaaaaaaa
Have you heard this joke?
The best deal you can get, is to buy and Argentinean for his real value and then sold it for he says his value is (hope I translated well)
5- Giving a HAND - even when no one called us (te doy una mano?)
We tend help everyone in almost everything
In general terms - I like your post as it gives me some interesting ideas on how people from us sees us
Have a nice day!!!
Florencia
Hola Flo! Very well said. You are 100% correct when you point out that my Argentina experience is "Provincial". I will also point out that the initial suspicion of gringos has passed with many of my Argentina friends after they realize that generalizing ALL gringos as ignorant rubes is a mistake. Much like me generalizing all Argentines instead of making distinctions.
I have heard the joke and you explained it well.
Thanks for you insightful comments!!!
